Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena were back in their winning ways this weekend. The fact that Rally Mexico marked the new BFGoodrich-shod Citroen C4 WRC's debut on gravel - the surface which makes up more than half the World Championship - added to the significance of their triumph. Loeb's main rival Marcus Gronholm recovered from a slow start to claim 2nd place, while his Ford/BFGoodrich team-mate Mikko Hirvonen came out of his fierce fight with Dani Sordo (Citroen/BFGoodrich) and Chris Atkinson (Subaru/BFGoodrich) to clinch 3rd spot on the final morning.
Mikko Hirvonen sprang a surprise today by wining the WRC's newcomer, the Rally Norway. The youngster led from flag to flag, while fellow Finn Marcus Gronholm was powerless against his teammate's superiority and contented himself with securing a maximum points haul for BP-Ford compared with a single point for rivals Citroen. The French team had a bleak weekend with Sebastien Loeb (14th) and Dani Sordo (25th) both going off. Henning Solberg profited from the final day to steal 3rd place from his brother Petter and make it an all-Ford podium.
As in 2006, Marcus Gronholm (Ford/BFGoodrich) succeeded in coming out of his early duel with Sebastien Loeb (Citroen/BFGoodrich) on top. Also like last year, it was a different tyre choice (a difference of 0.5mm between the 'normal' and 'long stud' options) that enabled the Finn to pull clear of his archrival. Mikko Hirvonen (Ford/BFGoodrich) finished on the podium to enable Ford to close on Citroen in the Manufacturers' points table going into Rally Norway, a newcomer to the World Rally Championship which starts next Friday
After a four months' absence, Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena (Citroen/BFGoodrich) have bounced back to the competitive arena by securing their fourth Monte Carlo win at the wheel of a brand new car, the C4 WRC. Dani Sordo and Marc Marti made it a one-two finish for Citroen and were joined on the podium by the 2006 Monte winner, Marcus Gronholm (Ford Focus/BFGoodrich). Now running on BFGoodrich tyres, the Subaru Impreza was able to battle with the 2006 Manufacturers' title-winning Fords.
- BFGoodrich secures victory on all sixteen rounds of the 2006 calendar in association with Loeb, Grönholm and Hirvonen and its partner teams Ford and Citroën. - Marcus Grönholm and Timo Rautiainen (Ford/BFGoodrich) conclude the season as they started it on top of the podium.

- Marcus Grönholm/Timo Rautiainen secure their fifth win of the 2006 season to close to within 25 points of absentee Loeb. - Grönholm and Hirvonen claim a one-two finish for BP-Ford/BFGoodrich which takes the British team 8 points clear at the top of the Manufacturers’ standings. - BFGoodrich runners monopolise the final top-five in treacherous conditions.
- Marcus Grönholm/Timo Rautiainen and Mikko Hirvonen/Jarmo Lehtinen earn Ford a second Manufacturers’ world title, 27 years after the make’s first WRC crown. - BFGoodrich celebrates its maiden season of world class rallying by securing both the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ titles thanks to Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena and Ford. - A score of 15 wins from 15 rounds so far in 2006 for BFGoodrich who will be looking to make it a grand slam in Wales in two weeks’ time.
World rallying history books will remember that it was on the Japanese island of Hokkaido that Sébastien Loeb (Citroën/BFGoodrich) notched up the 27th World Championship win of his career after a thrilling clash with Marcus Grönholm (Ford/BFGoodrich). Loeb’s score of 27 wins takes him one better than the record previously held by Carlos Sainz. Today’s result also sees the Frenchman pull further clear in the Drivers’ championship, although BP-Ford WRT has succeeded in narrowing the gap that separates it from Kronos Total Citroën at the sharp end of the Manufacturers’ standings to just 11 points thanks to Mikko Hirvonen’s 3rd place and the post-finish exclusion of Xsara driver Dani Sordo.
BFGoodrich Asian Motorsports Festival 2004 Calendar of Events
Like the Goddess of Beauty Aphrodite who is said to have emerged from the waves on a Cypriot beach near the event’s host-town Limassol, Sébastien Loeb rose to the highest step of the Cyprus Rally podium for the third year in a row. And like Aphrodite, his Citroën Xsara WRC/BFGoodrich, which was ’born of the blood of Kronos’, is endowed with the fascinating power of ensuring a perpetual desire for victory. Once again this weekend, the battle between Loeb and Grönholm proved to be yet another thriller until it turned definitively in favour of the Frenchman towards the end of Day 2. Mikko Hirvonen (Ford/BFGoodrich) joined the charging duo on the rostrum for the third event running, while BFGoodrich runners monopolised the top-seven at the finish of the WRC season’s roughest fixture.
- Sébastien Loeb and his co-driver secure their third consecutive world title despite not being in Australia. - Mikko Hirvonen/Jarmo Lehtinen (Ford/BFGoodrich) score their first WRC win. - BP-Ford extends its lead over Kronos Total Citroën in the provisional Manufacturers’ standings. Both are BFGoodrich partner teams.
After its successful launch in May, the BFGoodrich Asian Motorsports Festival 2004 came back to Thailand in July to host the local autocross qualifying round for the BFG AMF 2004 finals in Malaysia in December.
BFGoodrich Thailand hosted a successful weekend of autocross & fun motorsports for consumers & dealers in Chiang Mai in July 2004. As part of their Take Control initiative, BFG Thailand organised a weekend to entertain dealers & to give consumers the opportunity to race their cars.
